The other players assume that you are holding a powerful hand and so there is no point in drawing further cards. If you stand during the 2nd draw instead of the first, this could work as a partial bluff or a semi bluff. Other players will assume you completed a good hand on the draw and that you have a decent hand at least, and if they have mediocre hands, they are likely to fold up. A bluff of this type is more powerful with a badugi hand with the weaker high value cards. It is a good idea to do some straight bluffing early in the game, when not many people are committed to the pot and almost no money has been invested yet. This is specially effective when you are playing with a group of tight players at the table.
If you want to do a semi bluff, you must have at least a four card hand or a strong three card hand, such as A 2 3. Also, when you work out your strategy, you have to consider the number of people at the table. If a lot of players are there in the game, you will probably not wish to bluff since there are more players likely to hold good hands. So go instead to a smaller table which has four or so people so that you can bluff, because your chances of winning are much greater when you are playing against fewer people. Instead of being one in eight, it is better to be one in four for winning the pot on average. You may of course bluff on a table with eight players, but not with a 2 or 3 card hand. You always have an advantage if you are the last person to bet or act, because you can see what the others have done. So this is a great chance to bluff because of the additional knowledge you now have. A player who acts last is also able to gauge how well his hand is against the other players, and he also has the option to fold if the game suddenly changes. Players last to act will also be able to gauge how well their hands are against the rest of the table as well and have the option to fold if a game changing situation arises instead of getting drawn into a bunch of people raising all at once for instance. So keep this in mind when playing badugi. Badugi Poker » Online Bluffing StrategyMore Strategy Guide and Tips | ||||
