Basics of 7 card stud poker

7 card poker is a popular poker variation. The game can be found in almost all the land based as well as online casinos. Though it is popular, it is one of the complex variations of poker because of the game play and the strategies involved. So it often takes players years to develop and master the skills of the game.

In the beginning round three cards are dealt to the players out of which two of them are faced down while one is faced up. The facing up card is the door card. After this a round of betting takes place following which another rounds of cards are dealt. After the first round the betting amounts go up. In most of the casinos there are minimum and maximum limits on the betting amounts which the players have to follow. In the last round a single faced down card is dealt to the players followed by the final round of betting.

The main aim of the game is to get the highest hand. In a game if more than one player gets the highest hand, then the cards which make up the hand will decide the winner and that person will win the pot.

The main difference between 7 card poker and other forms of poker is that the community of cards is not used in this game. The cards which consist of the hand of the players are dealt to them by the dealer directly; no card is laid out on the table. In the first round the player who gets the door card with the highest value has to make the first bet. If the player does not want to bet then he has no other option than to fold.

In each of the round the players has to bet or fold because of this it is often found that in 7 cards stud poker only two players are there in the last round. And in those cases where only one player lasts till the end, he will win automatically irrespective of the kind of hand he possessed.

In 7 card poker since many of the cards are dealt facing upward, the players get an idea about the kind of hand the other players possess. Because of this bluffing is often tricky in 7 card poker.

So though it is slightly complex than some of the other variations of poker, it is an extremely interesting and challenging game to play.
